Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

It’s great to see you’re interested in learning more about a career in firefighting! To support aspiring firefighters, we’re running Information and Practice Days in our core recruiting areas. This is your chance to meet our firefighters, ask them any questions you have, and get their advice first-hand. You’ll also have the chance to practice our Physical Pre-Entry Test.

Once you’ve booked in below, our friendly team will confirm your location and time slot and send you all the information you need ahead of the session, including what to expect on the day.

If you would like to be notified when we are holding our next round of Information and Practice Sessions, please email nationalattraction@fireandemergency.nz and specify your preferred location to attend a session. Please note we typically run Information and Practice sessions twice per year”.
