Your checklist
  • Get low

Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

A closed door buys you time.

It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

People have died by going back into a fire.

Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

Annual Report 2019/20 – Fire and Emergency New Zealand

We have released our Annual Report for 2019/20 which showcases our achievements and priorities over the past financial year.

This year marks the third and final year of our Integration phase in bringing together rural and urban fire services. We are pleased with the significant progress we have made in delivering a unified fire service across New Zealand.

Some of our achievements include establishing seven Local Advisory Committees and our work towards having a culture where all our people feel safe, welcome and included. We’ve also invested in stations, vehicles, technology, equipment and support so that our people can continue to deliver for their communities.

Like many other organisations, we faced challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic. We had to quickly and effectively adapt our approach to keeping our communities safe, while continuing to deliver on our strategic priorities.

You can read more about what we have achieved as an organisation in our Annual Report.
