Your checklist
  • Get low

    Smoke is poisonous and more deadly than flames.

    If you breathe smoke for more than a few breaths it can kill you.

  • Be fast

    A house fire can kill you in less than three minutes.

    Don't spend time trying to save possessions.

  • Close doors

    A closed door buys you time.

    It slows down the spread of fire, giving you more time to get to safety.

  • Get out - stay out!

    People have died by going back into a fire.

    Don't leave the meeting place to go back inside for any reason.

ALISON BOSWIJK (Chair)

ALISON BOSWIJK

Alison is a Chief Executive of the Nelson Tasman Chamber of Commerce and former Deputy Mayor of Nelson City. Her governance career spans the Nelson Festivals Trust, Regional Skills Leadership Group and World of Wearable Art. With a background in business development and communications, she is passionate about serving the Nelson region in practical, community-focused ways.

SHANE GRAHAM (Deputy Chair)

SHANE GRAHAM

Shane (Raukawa/Ngāti Ranginui) is Pouwhakahaere/CEO of Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Rārua and an experienced academic. He has led Māori Studies and Social Sciences at Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology and has been recognised with national and international awards for his contributions to health, service and Māori leadership. Shane brings strong governance and crisis management expertise.

RICHARD KEMPTHORNE (Member)

RICHARD KEMPTHORNE

Richard is the former Mayor of Tasman District and has chaired key recovery and support trusts, including the Buller Flood Recovery Group and the Top of the South Rural Support Trust. Richard also has a background in horticulture and agriculture and focuses on strengthening rural community resilience.

JENNIFER BEATSON (Member)

JENNIFER BEATSON

Jennifer is the Regional Public Service Director for Nelson Tasman, Marlborough and West Coast. She has held leadership roles at the Ministry for Social Development and the Pasifika Community Trust, and actively participates in Civil Defence forums. Based in rural Motueka Valley, Jennifer brings deep insight into government coordination and local community needs.

TE NAIHI RUSSELL TREVOR WILSON (Member)

TE NAIHI RUSSELL (TREVOR) WILSON

Te Naihi is a consultant supporting iwi–Māori relations across Aotearoa. A former CEO of Whakatū Marae and Dean at the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology, he has a background in social work and academic leadership. Te Naihi is linked with Kaitahu, Kāti Māmoe, Ngāti Rarua, Te Ātiawa, Ngāti Kuia, Ngāti Apa and Rangitane iwi.

ANTHONY (TONY) LEWIS (Member)

ANTHONY (TONY) LEWIS

Tony is a seasoned CEO and sports executive, having led organisations including Tasman Rugby Union, Western Force, Cricket New South Wales and Diabetes Australia. He brings community, iwi, local government and business experience across sectors and is focused on ensuring all communities are heard and supported in future planning.

FIONA WILSON (Member)

FIONA WILSON

Fiona is a regional economic development and tourism specialist with global experience. Originally from Wales and recently relocated from Tasmania, she is focused on improving community wellbeing through inclusive economic planning and communicating complex issues to diverse stakeholders.
