Fire and Emergency New Zealand is responding to a large vegetation fire near Darfield, Canterbury.
Thirteen trucks and one helicopter are responding to the fire, which started around 10am this morning.
Three structures have been lost to fire.
The public are advised to avoid the area while crews work.
Anyone impacted by smoke from the fire should stay inside with their windows and doors closed.
